Nothing did happen.

Say you call the heat. The first thing they will ask you is if you know who the driver was. When you say, "I don't know, but I have the license number of the car he was driving" (you did keep your wits about you long enough to jot down the license plate number on your trembling palm, didn't you?), before they expend the resorces to trace the OWNER of the car who was not necessarily the driver, they will ask you how much was the damage. After you say,"Nothing", you will hear a loud click in your telephone receiver followed by dead silence.

Forget about it.
