I don't know about that Jim. The snopes dismissal sounds a lot like it
came from EXXON's PR dept.  I don't know where you live but around here
"supply and Demand" dictates that the price of gas rises as much as 20
cents a gallon on the wed before every long weekend. That sure looks to
me like " there will be a lot of people who want to go away this
weekend so let's jack up the price and gouge them. They won't be able
to wait until Tuesday so lets sock it to them". In other words, the
price of gas is an artificially manipulated monopoly.  (or Di-opoly--
EXXON-Mobil, Texaco-Chevron).  Yes there is some cross selling and yes
the majors supply the independents but there are a lot of "house"
distributors and Franchises for the majors who would not be selling
much gas if this thing took off.
Better yet,in addition to a boycott, fill up on monday or tuesday and
drive less. Better for you, your wallet and the environment.
