In Maryland a vehicle can be registered as historic if it is at least 20 years old and the manufacturer verifies that it is no longer in production. I sent an email to VW to ask about such documentation for my vanagon but did not get a reply. Has anyone gotten or know how to get a document from VW that vanagons are out of production?
