There are 2 problems with your idea. You will not have the flare for the hose and clamp to push against to keep it from slipping out under pressure. This will encourage you to tighten the clamp more. Them since you will not have the metal insert inside the tube, it will deform causing it to leak again. I would use a sheet metal screw with some sealant or epoxy to seal the leak. Dennis
