Subject: Re: second gas tank in their vanagon? plastic tanks??

Brian, The plastic tank in each front wheel-well are expansion tanks for the main fuel tank. Fumes and liquid fuel are 'piped' to each exp. tank by three small flexible lines from the top forward and rear ends of the main tank. The two lines on the bottom of each tank...... easy seen in the wheel- well.... drain back to each side of the main tank. A third line, at the top of the exp. tanks have a one-way roll-over valve and connect together, ultimately ending at the charcoal canister in the rear-wheel well... Pass-side on 2wd, Drivers-side on 4wds. The Bentley gives a description that will satisfy most inquisitive readers. Phil Z.
