Hi Tim,
Sounds like upper control arm bushings. Try taking that wheel off and try
to wiggle the UCA.

Undocumented of course.
Now on my 84 I have this 'whump' sound whenever I accelerate or brake, right
under my feet. Like the spare was sliding around, but the carrier is tight
and it hasn't changed or made anything fall off in the 15,000 miles since I
bought it.
