Bought one ages ago. Put it on the vanagon, used a Momo shift knob which adds roughly 2" to the lever length. "Falls easily to hand" now as Rod and Truck usta say. For bandy legged coots and ruffled grouches this makes commanding the 5sp much easier from the captains armrest. No transmission damage related to this upgrade. However, do remember to ensure that there is sufficient "float" at the shifting arm on the transmission should you ever have to R $ R the transmission. If the float is insufficient the movement of the transmission under load will try to shift out of fourth ever so slightly and wear out your fourth gear in very short order (1600 mi).
