Actually, excessive HC is usually indicative of a mis-fire condition or
leaky valves, usually exhaust. Rich mixture will show as excessive CO.
The borderline NOX reading here indicates the catalyst is shot and or
the ignition timing is too advanced. The good Co reading indicates the
mixture is probably where it should be. With the nigh NOX, my forst
choice would be to replace the Cat.

While we are on this subject, I just went thru the same deal here in
Boston. As I was expecting I didn't pass emissions although the only
item
I failed was the "HC GPM" My reading was 05.31 and the limit is 03.20
Any
Ideas?
FYI my other readings were:
CO GPM Reading: 020.61 Limit: 080.00 PASS
NOX GPM Reading: 06.51 Limit: 07.00 PASS
CO2 GPM Reading: 369.81
Jorge, HC reading is the hydro carbons reading. It is high which
indicates
the engine is running too rich a fuel mixture. Therefore you need to
check
all the components on the engine that control the information sent to
the
computer which in turn tell the computer how to adjust the fuel
mixture.
Throttle position switch, Temp II switch, AFM, Oxy sensor, CAT, exhaust
system
leaks, air intake leaks, vacuum leaks, air filter, timing, cap & rotor,
ignition
wires ignition coil, ground wires, and ultimately the condition of the
motor.
