George, can you provide more detail on this alternate linkage? My 5 speed is from a 1983 diesel camper. 1st gear is off the pattern below the reverse gear. I do not push down on the shifter to engage first gear. I've never seen a reference to different types of shift linkage for the 5 speed. South African, maybe? Are you talking about using the 5 speed transmission with the 4 speed shifter guide box that mounts under the floor?
