I've got a light over  my sliding door that I installed.  I used the same
style light as in the  front cabin and in most any VW of this era.  Cut out hole
in sheet metal  air duct above door to accept the VW interior light with
switch and I also added  a sliding door switch which you find on all passenger
model Vanagons.  The  holes to install the switch and its required door bumper are
all there on all  models.  The tricky part is running the wiring to hook up
with the wiring  from the front cab light circuit.  That takes some time and
patience.
