Since some have asked, I wanted to provide some clarification on pricing:

There is none. I will be speaking w/ the owner next week and hope to have some answers.

For reference and speculation:

Apparently several years ago, the price was around $25 for the complete kit (quick shift + extension). About a 1.5 years ago it was ~$45. As of January 04, price was ~$73. At least one list vendor sells it for $90.

I have absolutely no idea what kind of deal Berg will give us. Certainly, price is a deciding factor for many and I have gotten numerous good suggestions about how to best handle it. I have taken all into account and, be assured, I'm going to do my best to get the absolute best price possible for everyone.

It could be 5% off, it could be 50%, they might reject the idea all together. As someone mentioned, Berg was not very enthusiastic about a recent unrelated group purchase idea. But, I think we have numbers and convenience on our side. Considering the complications that group buys often present for sellers, their apprehension is understandable. So, the easier it is for them, the more likely they'll work with us.

The list we've started is by no means a commitment, but should reflect people with serious interest to give us a general idea of the potential quantity. The last thing to keep in mind is that this purchase idea came about from the recent "best mod" topic, in which the shift kit was at the top of many peoples list. A few have suggested that even at $100+, it's worth it. 100 bucks for the best vanagon modification.

Thanks,

James V 90 Carat

PS: If it's any reassurance, I managed to get a free replacement water heater last weekend... even though mine isn't broken. :) Maybe skill, probably luck.
