David, I of course want to recommend the STEBRO/Vanagon Stainless Steel Exhaust System. As you have already discovered it is expensive. I would like to point out that there is currently no complete stainless steel system for your 1984 Vanagon with the 1.9 litre engine. All that we can supply is the muffler and all support rods in stainless steel. HOWEVER, if you are seriously interested in keeping that van of yours for your lifetime I would suggest the following. Convert the exhaust system on that 1.9 of yours to the 2.1 configuration for which I can supply an complete stainless steel exhaust system for $1650 CND. You will also need to buy used (preferably) or new a 2.1 rear engine carrier to allow the 2.1 muffler to mount in the proper position. This mounting eliminates the need for all those crazy support rods on the 1.9 engine configuration. I know those engine mounts are about $350 from the dealer but out there in BC where you are I'm sure you could easily find one in a wrecking yad for not much money. This improvement will give you a bullet proof exhaust system that will last the rest of your lifetime and many other to follow. Please visit the STEBRO/Vanagon Stainless Steel Exhaust System, http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/stebro.htm, website for more details.

Cheers,
