You seem to forget that not all of us have a career in electronics. Not all of us have the equipment to diagnose EFI problems and not all of us know a lot about either EFI or carburetors. Additionally, we don't all live a couple of blocks down the road to ask for your expertise or borrow your equipment.

In my entire lifetime I've only had one fuel injected vehicle and I honestly couldn't have told any difference between that and the other cars I've driven - in terms of performance or smooth running.

The Vanagon engine is simple. It can be taken to bits with simple tools and without specialist equipment. A carburetor is simple. It can be taken to bits with simple tools and without specialist equipment.

The OP asked:

The answers are: "yes" and "no" (the emphasis on question two being *severely*). The extra issue you validly raise - emissions - really depends on a correct setup and correct general maintenance. -- Tim PGP Key ID: 525e6a47 Available from http://pgp.mit.edu
