The worst car-buying mistake I ever made was buying a used 84 Rabbit with a carburetor. I had some misgivings at the time, but it was in nice condition and it was a "bargain". The carb was unbelievably complex and I could not find any documentation. I found info about 3 other carburetors used on Rabbits in that era, but not the one I had. I was always trying to re-adjust it and the choke would never work right in cold weather. I have never had any serious fuel injection problems with 3 Rabbits with CIS or with 10 other VWs with EFI.
