Warren from your description the engine is running to rich and you have gas fouled the plugs, O2 sensor and the exhaust system. I would suggest you do an oil change to remove the unburned fuel from the crankcase. Then I would do a compression test while the plugs are out and then replace the plugs with a fresh set. Next I would disconnect the O2 sensor and run it for a couple of hundred miles that way to clear out the soot from the exhaust. The O2 sensor is fouled to the point that it is most likley making the injection run full rich replacing it wont change anything as the new one will foul in a few miles. The ECU will use its base setting and you can run it this way with no problems. The European 2.1 engines with digijet injection do not use an O2 sensor due to the leaded fuel used

This morning when I tried to start it, it starts, revs up, then immediately dies. No way to keep it running. I pulled the plugs and they were wet and black (less than 100 miles on them). > > I switched the idle control valve and idle control stabilization unit (near the taillight) from my perfectly running 87 GL and no change. > > Help. > > Warren Lail > 88 Westy "Billy Bones" > 87 GL >
