Well, after extensive digging into the electrical system the problem(s) revealed themselves. A short in the rear engine compartment electrical system caused the wiring to the right rear turn signal and backup lights to melt together in a hard-to-see location and caused the turn signal/emergency signal relay circuit board to burn up as well. This caused the fuse to the horn and backup lights to repeatedly blow as well as the fuse to the turn signals to blow once, that is until the circuit board burned up as well and prevented further fuses from blowing for the turn signals! This is concerning-I have the proper amperage fuse installed for the turn signals and emergency flashers. Spliced in new wiring and loom cover and bought a new relay from VW for $7.00, and now the problem seems solved. |
