If you drop the top from full-extension, (hold it up with a broomstick sized dowell or something) to take the pressure off and put it at a level you can reach by sitting in the luggage box, or by standing inside the galley, you can use a curved canvas sewing needle and stitch up the tear with heavy thread. The last time I saw one of those needles was in a Army/Navy Surplus store but craft stores, outdoor stores, sewing supply store will likely have one. They're much bigger than a regular sewing needle and are easier to deal with. Then sew a patch over the outside, maybe 2" wide to help support the repaired tear when the top is fully extended. It should be pretty easy to access the tear from both sides by unzipping the window and screen. By the way: does the tear run vertically or horizontally. Something to think about when repairing.
