For XP, first left click and hold down the button. Drag the cursor to select the section of the desktop you want to copy. Next, on the keyboard, press control-print screen. That puts the image in the clipboard. Then go to accessories and open the Paint program. "Paste" from the clip-board into the Paint gui (window) , then print from Paint.
