A note with the fuel pump I just installed (related message is elsewhere on the list) read that the filter should be replaced regularly to protect the pump. If the filter is after the pump, how can it possibly protect the pump? How many of you add an additional filter between the fuel tank and the pump? > I worked on a '84 Westy today that had a (leaking) factory filter between the tank and pump. According to my ETKA, this filter has been discontinued and replaced with a suitable length of hose. That seems foolish to me. A generic filter from any FLAPS would provide insurance, though it would have to be changed regularly to prevent starvation of the pump. I was amazed at the amount of debris in the last tank I removed. Perhaps VW thinks the pump can pass this stuff without damage. Michael Snow 1982 Westfalia 1.9D 1986 GL 1987 Syncro GL |
