Like others have said it sounds like a defective pump. I haven't had the
experience, but I did chat with a Vanagon owner at the Reno, NV VW dealer when
passing through about 3 years ago He had previously had to have his third water
pump put in the Vanagon under the pumps warranty as the first two the dealer
had installed had started to weep shortly after installation. The third was a
charm according to the guy which had lasted several years up to that point.

I have a VW dealer water pump I installed at that time and have had no
problem.
