i can personally attest to the fact that there is room for an expansion bottle above the radiator in a vanagon. in initial engine conversion cooling system design i sought to have a over flow tank above the top of the radiator. so off to the junk yard i went and i came home with several tanks including that cute cylinder shaped volvo tank ;). in the end i discovered that the best fit was the old vanagon over flow tank. i currently have that tank mounted adjacent to the radiator bleed orifice. i it is a close fit, but it fits without any modifications. in its mounted position the top of the radiator is about midway on the height of the over flow tank.
