That seems like good advice for a lot of wear parts like belts and hoses. If you buy a new one, put it on, and if the old one still looks servicable carry it along.

I wouldn't waste my time installing a used part on any of my vehicles, especially a part I had previously replaced because it had reached the end of its service life; that just doesn't make much sense to me. If anyone wants my old parts, I'd be more than happy to ship them to you if you picked up the cost of postage. They are working when I take them off the van and might work for a long time after you install them; but then again, they might not.
