This is not quite in the same realm as some of the previous
(more relavent) replies on the subject but.....

When the original thin synthetic rubber belt on my tumble
drier broke (when the drier was most desperately needed),
in desperation I turned to my only ready supply of belts...
used VW alternator belts....naturally.

The belt that fitted best was from a 2.0L Type 4 eng and
whilst a little large,the extra stiffness of the VW belt meant
there was enough pressure on the pulleys of the motor
and the tumbler.

This quick fix has worked for over 12 years now and I have
no intention of changing it back to the original type (which
would also cost me to purchase!)

So,when my wife occasionally complains about all the old
VW parts (from vehicles long gone) I continue to hang onto,
I remind her of the story about the tumble drier and the
VW alternator belt...;)
