Subject: Friday Frozen bolts? Anyone tried this? L or N VC
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I recently purchased a retired step van from the USPS with a Ch**vy 6.2 diesel engine. I don't have much mechanical experience with diesels so I've surfed around looking at web sites dedicated to maintenance and repairs of specifically the GM 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines. The following is a recommended method of removing frozen bolts; >>>>While trying to loosen a frozen bolt, I tried this trick of heating the bolt and surrounding area with a torch (propane will work, just slower). When its nice and hot, take away the torch and apply an ordinary house candle to the head/threads. As the area cools, it draws in the wax and coats the threads. When it's cool enough to handle, put on your wrench and work it loose and out. It's amazing what a difference it makes.<<<<< I don't know if this would work on (or cause damage to) VW alloy heads/engines but it sounds simple and quicker than my penetrating oil "soak 'n' pray method. Anyone tried this with good or bad results?
