Subject: Vanagon's ability to handle steep grades? (trip to NC)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I am taking a trip to Asheville, NC next weekend and am wondering if I am going to end up as a moving guardrail on the steeper grades? My family used to come into Asheville in the Van from the Northeast using I-40. There were some steep grades but I was young and didn't remember much other than pulling off on the side of the road every couple hours to let the AFM settle down and the 12 volt TV and VCR sitting in between the Jump seats. (Didn't realize my family was over 15 years ahead of its time) I will be coming up from the South East on I-26 through Columbia and Spartanburg SC, then through Hendersonville and on up to Asheville. I can't seem to find any elevation or interstate grade maps on the internet that make any sense. I know interstates aren't supposed to go above 6% grade except where absolutely necessary but I would love to have an idea of what I was up against. I don't want to be in 3rd gear often.

Thanks,

Kurt
