Subject: tie rod end removal Q
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I need to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle to replace the boot on the steering rack. I suppose I could use a "pickle fork" to separte the tie rod end, but my guess is this would ruin the tie rod end boot.

Is there enough room around the tie rod end to use a gear puller--say maybe a 4" or 6" type with the two arms or hooks-- to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle. I don't want to buy the puller if it won't fit in these tight quarters around the steering knuckle/tie rod end/brake backing plate and aid in the separation. Any other ideas to keep from damaging the tie rod end and tie rod end boot for this repair?

Thanks Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
