Subject: starter bushing question
Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

It took me all of about 15 minutes to pull my starter in a FLAPS parking lot the other day. Now I have my new starter and, being a good boy, decided to change the starter bushing. I bought a 10.7mm tap and tried to remove it with that (turning it until it began to back out the bushing - I read about this method in the archives). Problem is, it is almost impossible to reach the starter area and I've strained to get the tap really going. So far all I've done is chew up the front end of the bushing.

Are there any easy ways to get that dang bushing out? If I can't get it out, I'm going to have to pull the tranny, and although I need to do that at some point to replace some seals, I'm really not in the mood to do it right now.

Regards,

p.s. I switched lots of components around between my two buses and found that my problem component was my AFM. It worked fine before I cleaned it with solvent :(. I hope to be able to get it in working order again.
