There is a tool we used to sell, very cheap that opens up inside the bushing and has a cross plate over the starter hole and it pulls the bushing out.

Pick up any hot rod VW magazine and look for the outlets that offer cheap vw hot rod parts most will carry the 12vt starter bushing tool

If not call Buggy House in Haward CA, they likely have them and could ship you one.

Mine has been part of my tool box since 76
