Joy, like the Bible there are several versions of the Vanagon Bentley,
I'd guess about 7 or 8 . I just checked each of the 2 older versions on
my garage bookshelf. These are the ones I mostly use when working on
Vanagons so they are ratty and dirty. In those 2 I found no mention of a
lever on the brake pressure regulator. I also have a latest copy I keep
clean so I can take it in the house and it has the text you quoted in
your post.
When quoting from a Bentley on the list perhaps we should also mention
the version we are looking at. The page numbering is different as well
as what is on a given page. A simple way to identify the version is by
the last year covered according to the front cover.
The Bentleys are great manuals but far from perfect as has been noted
many times. There are errors and omissions in them.
1984 - no mention of lever
1987 - no mention of lever
1991 - lever in bold text
