Subject: (2) 87 Vanagons 2.1L auto FOR SALE SOON w/lots of new and extra
parts
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Hello List,
We want to thank everyone on this list who has helped
me over the past couple of years with fixing my
Vanagon. We even purchased some parts from some of you
on this list. Without your help my family and I would
have been riding the donkey to town more often.
We have to sell our favorite vans in the whold world.
They turned into our project vans. But we've had so
many other things happen (the worst of which when our
electrical panel exploded and started a fire in our
walls; the fire fighters and SDGE people said they've
never seen anything like it because it melted almost
the entire inside of the panel and blew the door of
the panel clear accross the yard), insurance won't
cover it all, either. Then the last rains here sent a
steady pour of dark syrupy water into our livingroom.
I think you get the picture. Ever see the movie, Money
Pit? It would be funnier for us if things didn't cost
so much to fix! So we're selling the vans because we
just don't have the money anymore to continue the
projects.
In the meantime, we managed to accumulate a lot of
extra parts. Some were "just in case" parts; some were
"it's-time-to-replace" parts. These parts have not
been installed. I haven't done a complete inventory
yet. But to name a few: brand new AFM, brand new OEM
German radiator, crankshaft w/39,000mi, brand new VW
camshaft, whole wiring harness, (2) 022D computers,
80-91 VW manual, extra auto transmission w/torque
converter...and more...I just can't think what else
right now. But I've got a sealed bin and storage
cabinet full of stuff.
Both vans are 87 models w/working a/c. They're in good
shape. BUT...the trans in the one with the manual
mirrors won't shift into 2nd (engine strong) and I
disconnected all the wires todrop engine (it's still
in) but I have parts and everthing is labelled; and
the other van with power mirrors has the engine on a
pallet in my garage. It needs a rebuild (@204k miles).
Ran like a champ before I dropped it, though. The
trans in that one works great.
Anyway, we need to get them out of our driveway. I
want to sell everything as a "kit" :-). I imagine that
the person who is interested in this "kit", wouldn't
mind putting stuff back together again. And with all
the extra parts, I imagine that one could sell one van
and keep the other. Oh, yeah, the manual mirror van
has a rear wiper, too. Both vans are gold color.
Michelin MXT's on Vanetta, the power mirror van. Can't
remember what's on the other.
I"m not sure what to ask for the vans and parts. We're
not greedy We'll take into account and towing or
whatever to get them out of our driveway. But I'd
think somewhere around $1,500 or so? Notice the
question mark. I'm up for ideas, suggestions, and
reasonable offers. Just as long (as my wife likes to
point out) that both vans leave at the same time :-).
I have an excellent reputation on Ebay as a buyer (if
that helps). And some of you may recognize my name and
address.
If you're interested, or know someone who is, please
p-mail me. We can set up a time to look at the vans.
If you're mechanically inclined, you may want to put
the engine back in our original Vanetta, and drive it
away...with the other van in tow, of course. :-D
Any thoughts about how I'm selling/offering this are
welcome.
We live in Ramona, CA, about 45mi ne of San Diego, CA.
Thank you.
Will Hansen
