what procedure was used to test for the spark? holding distributor terminal end of coil wire near engine ground is usual procedure. if really no spark, engine will not run at all.

assuming no spark, was there positive voltage at the coil + terminal?

assuming no spark and positive voltage at coil + terminal, was there transient voltage at coil - terminal ( roughly, between 0 and maybe - 300 V)?
