the leakdown tester should have instructions with it but, normally you supply 90 psi and watch the gauge. 10% is the leakdown for a new engine and 30% is rebuild time if i remember correctly. if it is the valves you should hear or feel air coming out of the exhaust or intake manifold/throttle body. if its the rings you should be able to feel hear air coming out of the dipstick tube with the dipstick out.
