Chris et al,

The last batch of 2WD T3 Transporters, passenger vans & pickups etc were indeed made in Austria...in Graz at the the Steyer Puch factory where the Syncros were assembled.

Something like (and I'm ready to be corrected here) the last 18,000 or so ever built. You can tell if you have one of these (even if any "made in Austria" sticker has been removed) by looking at your chassis number located under the van. There will be a G (for Graz) instead of the H (for Hannover) in the number.

My understanding is that this shift in assembly locations for the last of the T3s was necessitated by the fact that Hannover was already gearing up for the commencement of T4 production....however I am not sure exactly what the date was when this began to occur.I would have thought from late in 91...?

Cheers, Steve O NSW Australia '92 Transporter WBX Kombi (built in Graz) '00 Transporter Double Cab (German pure-bred;) '03 Transporter Double Cab (work truck) '78 Landrover Series 3 Ragtop (Ex Aust.Army)
