I might be an old grouch but I see every VW bus or Vanagon as a potential for a new engine. It's my thinking that every one of the cars on E bay are worth 'less the rebuilt engine' investment that most will need. When you start thinking about ten to thirty year old cars you have to see that they must be purchased as Cash Transactions and Insurance Companies aren't your friend if you have a loss. I've owned about eight Vanagons, Westy in ten years and every one was just marginal on the engine but two that I drove myself after installing newly rebuilt engines in. I've always been curious about the continuing saga of the vehicles I sold but I loose track of them after about 90 days past the sale date.

I looked at a 1984 Westy here in Phoenix, and talked to the owner. It was on e-Bay, and he was hoping to get around $3000 for it.

It sold for $4750. The final bidder had his high bid set at $6300.
