Chris,
    Having you say that, made me think!!  Keep in mine this was 1985.
I did install the middle 2 seat bench, and then put a large card board box
between the second and thrid seat at just the right height to be completely
flat.  This gave my seating back.  Worked great, for a quick camping trip.
