Subject: Water pumps and head gaskets (eek)

So my water pump blew out in Monroe, WA last week and was fixed on Monday along with three belt replacements and one water hose (short and squat). The bill was about $600.00. By the time I got to the ferry (30-50 miles) the reservoir was bone dry. I added water twice on the way home to Port Townsend - another fifty miles? When it finally stopped raining I saw a leaking on the right of the engine (the water pump is on the left) and after taking to several mechanics think it's the head gasket.

Now is this related? And is $900 - $1100 a reasonable estimate for two head gaskets?

I don't think it ever overheated - when the water pump was failing I would turn the car on ('85 Westfalia) and after the red light went out it would come back on in about 15 seconds and I would turn it off. I then realized I needed to add fluid...and took it in.

Thanks,

Andree

PS I still have that awning for sale!
