Mark,
I do minimal gambling. I like to do the following (I'm sure the kids may
not find everything interesting):
You didn't mention if you would have your van. If you do--great. If not,
RENT a cheap car. Enterprise has super deals on weekends.
Have one of the kids carry a portfolio type folder and use it to collect 2
for 1 coupons, information etc.---believe me, you will regret not keeping
all the literature and coupons you came across and discarded. they'll save
you cash or time spent trying to find something you read about the day
before.
Ride the trolley that goes down the strip--it takes awhile because it stops
at most casinos. I trust you will have a stroller. Great for hauling a
little extra stuff down below.
Introduce your kids to 99 cent shrimp cocktails. West-Ward Ho has deals on
these as well as hot-dogs.
Make sure you get to the old Down Town at night for the "Fremont St.
experience". park in the Horse-Shoe ramp and get your parking validated at
said casino.
Drive the Strip at night.
Drive out to the outskirts of city and witness the incredible growth.
Drive to the outskirts of city at night and view the strip, city and airport
from a distance. Have a beer.
Drive to Hoover dam (tour is OK)and check out Lake Mead too.
Drive to Red Rock canyon or valley of Fire.
There is a ghost town nearby (75 miles?) but I never found it.
Check out the worlds largest tourist shop at north end of strip near Sahara.
Make sure your 10 and 17 y old buy a dice clock.
I think the Sahara may have a super arcade that kids can go to.
Find Young Electric Sign Co and see if you can spot their sign grave yard in
back.
There is a big water park--somewhere. And of course bungee jumping.
Drive up to Mt. Charleston, there are parks up there, and maybe snow.
Find the Vannamainia guy and give us a report (vanagon content).
Coca-cola world was great---but now closed. I drank 23 coke products from
around the world and spent 2 hours recovering.
I thought M&M world SUCKED. They wont even give a kid a single M&M
sample--it's just a big expensive candy gift shop.
However; there is a related candy factory, Ethel M's(?) , towards Henderson
and Hoover dam. The tour is OK, and they have a cacti-park. all kinds of
cactus.
The Ocean Spray tour is kind of lame, but the samples--always fun.
There was a marsh-mellow factory, but never saw it. It was destroyed when a
nearby rocket fuel plant exploded.
Did I mention; rent a car.
Watch out at the court house when you get your marriage license, the on duty
officers may try to ham it up for wedding photo-op and want tip.
