I've used Yokohama Y356's. My experience with them was the same as at least one other Vanagon owner: they were very harsh riding and the edges, both inside and out, wore too quickly. I've used them on both a 2WD and two Syncro's. Now, I've taken to running Hakkapeliitta's year round on a Syncro. In the end, the Hakka's are cheaper because they last longer and they are also better than the Yokohama's in all other qualities regardless of the weather conditions.
