Hi Volks,

I'll chip in here with my own take on racking boats on VW campers: I built a simple rack from scrap plywood that works very well and is easy to pull apart and store when not in use. It does a great job at carrying my two canvas-and-cedar kayaks, and when you remove it from the bus it makes a good rack for beach storage as well. But you can't lift the pop-top with it on the bus.

Here's a PDF I wrote in October 2000 on how to build your own: http://www.geocities.com/vw_type2/roofrack.pdf

Happy trails,
