Most 3rd gear syncro type problems stem from the 3rd/ 4th slider hub starting to crack and wear the syncro prematurely. This is your wake up call to the impending need for a rebuild. $995 exchange from me with a 3 yr warranty. Holler if I can help. Daryl of AA Transaxle Duvall, WA. Subject: My 84 has trouble shifting into 3rd gear

My 84 has trouble shifting into 3rd on occasion-likes to grind in for a half a second (shifting at a low idle drive will relieve this sympton most of the time). I am now in the habit of skipping over 3rd and right into 4th . I was told that 3 out of 4 dentists recommended syncros for their patients who chew transmissions. Is this most likely?
