After removing the end of the cable from the brake lever the old cable will pull out thru the backing plate. This will include the white plastic piece mounted in the backing plate. You very well may need to heat the backing plate to remove this plastic part. The new cable will just make it thru the backing plate and will include a new white plastic part.
