There are so many more things involved with a VW Van than money. I returned from an "overseas tour of duty" in 1972, and picked up a new Beetle (I purchased tax-free from my duty station). But...my friend had a 1970 bus. A camper, but no pop-up. We took off for 30 of the most fun days I've ever had. I returned to California, sold the Beetle, and took an assignment to Yokosuka, Japan. Now, 30 years later, I'm retired and bought an 85 GL and an 82 Westy. Someone said you need one to work on and one to drive. I believe that may be correct. A VW Van just seems to bring a "thumbs up" from people who wouldn't normally even notice what's in the lane next to them. I have VanMania and hope to keep it.
