I've always used carpet padding cut in a single large piece that fits from my engine compartment to down under my rear seat. It cuts noise tremendously. When you need to get to the engine, just roll it back. I've used this on my 81 Westy "BaseCamp" (now sold) and on my 87 GL. Makes things nice and quiet. Billy Bones is going to get some carpet padding installed this weekend. I've also noticed that Westies have a more "tinny" sound when you close the doors than do the GLs. I'm going to buy some tarpaper felt and 3M adhesive and get busy inside those doors. Road noise sucks. Cheers, Warren 88 Westy "Billy Bones" (we've signed Articles) 87 GL "Long John" |
