Maybe the laws are different in your state. At every auction I've ever gone to, there was a big sign that said "ALL SALES FINAL". If I bought something that turned out to be busted, I don't think they would have done much besides give me a handkerchief to dry my tears. Likewise, police auto auctions here always have prominant disclaimers that all vehicles are as-is, and only cash payments are accepted.
