That sounds like the connection to the O2 sensor.  It's thicker than normal
because it's a coaxial wire, with a sheath around the main signal wire.
There's a hole in the tin - with a grommet - where the wire from the O2
sensor (located on the exhaust) comes into the engine compartment.

If you're saying this wire comes from the left side of the engine
compartment, somewhere behind the black junction box, and has its own black
sheath, that sounds like the connection to the oil pressure sender.
