For all those who favor EFI system, my vanagon left me stranded on the side of a highway this weekend, with a $50 tow home, could've been alot worse.

So, I was hoping for some help diagnosing the problem. The van idles fine and drives fine until it warms up...then coput...nothing, the system totally shuts down, at first it will come back/start again...will buck for a while goin on and off, eventually it stalls complewtely and will not start again until it cools down. Any ideas?

While on the side of the highway, looking for loose wires, etc. I found the wires that connect to some kind of relay (???) on the side of the distributer cooked. I hunted everywhere in Bentley ( not the truobleshooting guide extrordinare) for what these wires do, they go directly into the wiring harness. Anyway, spliced and reconnected..same problem. I am leaning toward the coil, but my mechanic thinks maybe the coolant temp sensor??

Thank you in advance for imparting your ominscent wisdom my way.

yours,

ajp

86'GL

Check out MSN PC Safety & Security to help ensure your PC is protected and safe.
