Me too, however VW Type 2s,T3s and even T4s are designed as commercial delivery vans,pickups etc,and as such were not meant to be hurled down Autobahns at full tilt. Since it was such a versitile box on wheels,the Transporter has evolved into other variations like recreational vehicles but it was not the original intention for the van. It was a work truck and they aint meant to be flogged along the Autobahn keeping up with Mercs,BMWs,Audis and Porsches.

As Stan says,55 to 65 mph.Above that just wastes fuel at an exponential rate...
