I have been following this thread for sometime with interest.

Two years ago I used the roll of aluminium-backed bitumen to line the metal around the dash and inside the doors:

The tinny sound is definitely gone and the doors shut with a "thunk" instead of "tink". Unfortunately, my Westy is so damned noisy I can't tell if it makes a difference as a sound deadener.
