I took a similar approach to Larry´s but at a much lower price level. Found a good Westfalia Diesel, invested in a brand new 1.9 NA diesel engine, replaced all major components with Larry´s same criteria. Simplicity was my main goal, inspired in the fact that the Westfalia was to be used to travel from Oregon to Argentina. Total estimated cost, including the vehicle, USD 5,000. And boy it worked! See http://torlasco.tripod.com for more details...Regards,

Cristian Torlasco
