Stan, in common law when the autioneer agreed to alow you to pick the itmes up later a bailment was established. This means that they were in fact responsible for the items. In addition there would be an implied duty on the autioneer to assure that any other buyers picked up only what they had bid on, an implied responsibility for the security and to assure that no one switched tags. Talk to your lawyer and at the very least file a theft report with the local police. The very least you can do is put some official pressure on the aution house.
